ARTCOP’s Core Members

M A Rashid (Chairman): M A Rashid is a renowed researcher management expert. He did his M.Sc in statistics form Chittagong University, Post Graduate Diploma in Demography from Cairo Demographic Centre, Cairo, EGYPT. He successfully completed training courses on Advance Research Methodology and Survey Techniques, Computer Programming, Techniques of Analysis of World Fertility Survey Data, Advance Computer Programming and Reproductive Health in CPS from home and abroad. He was Ex – Senior Research Associates, NIPORT. He played an important role in various international surveys viz. BRSFRM 1974, BFS 1975, CPS 1979, CPS 1981 and BFS 1989. He also prepared the Analytical Tables of BFS 1989. He has acquired excellent skills in population and health, nutrition and family planning. He has published good number of publication in both national and international.


Mr. Md. Shamsudduha (Executive Director): Mr. Duha graduated from University of Dhaka, working in ARTCOP since 1990. During his tenure he efficiently handle a good number of research/ studies in the field of Nutrition, Demography, Reproductive Health, Information Science, Environment, Agriculture, Social Research and Management etc. He is also the project director of ATTA NIRVAR PUSHTI KARMASHUCHI. Prior to his present assignment, he was associated with NNC, Dhaka.

Dr. M. Nurul Islam (Consultant): Dr. M. Nurul Islam has an admirable background in Statistics. With a Masters in Statistics, an M.Phil and a Ph.D in Demography, he has earned during his three decades of professional life, a wide range of proficiency in evolving statistical procedures, data analysis and extensive applications of computer for statistical purposes and socio-economic surveys. On top of teaching in different areas of statistics as Professor of Dhaka University, Dr. Islam carried out a sizable number of consultancy works with Planning Commission, NIPORT and UNICEF, many of which had been as a statistical expert. He also participated in many seminars and conferences both at home and abroad. His research area encompasses fertility, mortality, morbidity, reproductive health, nutrition, marriage and marital dissolution. His research papers and publications published in national and international journals in the related field have exceeded 100 and his skill in use of microcomputer in respect of statistical modeling is excellent. He supervised at least 75 students to earn their M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees.

Dr. Kapil Ahmed (Consultant): Dr. Ahmed is a Statistician/ Demographer having specialization on Population Science (Demography, Migrations & Nuptials); Public Health (Epidemiology and Biostatistics); Health and Social Care (Biology, Nutrition, Ethics, and social polices); Information Management & Analysis, and Reproductive & Social Research. Involve with Pedagogical positions nationally as well as internationally for the courses of epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methodology. Produce scientific articles and technical reports for publications and disseminations around the globe. Adequate experiences on different sophisticated statistical software, databases and GPS including MS Offices. Extensive working experiences in various capacities with international research organisations, academic institutions, and development agencies both in developing and developed countries. Having capacity in managing epidemiological, public health and surveillance programs/projects. Persistently communicates with researchers, academicians, and different stakeholders. Able to immediate prioritize the workloads according to importance in a preference of team approaching among multicultural environment. 

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman (Consultant): Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is a renowned researcher. He did his Ph.D. in Public Health from Berkley, USA. He has acquired excellent skill and knowledge during his long service carrier. As Director of Family Planning (MCH), National Institute of Population Research and Training (NIPORT), BFRC, Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC), he undertook and conducted many research and studies on Family Planning, Fertility, Mortality, Population, Ageing, Migration, Urbanization, and Maternal Child Health etc.. His research papers published in the national and international journals. During his service period Dr. Rahman participated in many seminars and conferences in home and abroad.

Dr. Rejuan Hossain Bhuiyan (Consultant): Dr. Rejuan is a renowned researcher and urban planner. He did his M.Sc. in Geography and Environment from Dhaka University, M.D. in Demography, Dhaka University, M.Phil in Geo-Demography from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India and Ph.D. in Geo-Demography from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India. He has acquired an excellent skill on population and environmental research of national and international importance. Dr. Rejuan has been teaching as a Professor, Department of Geography and Environment, University of Dhaka. During his service period, he has produced one M.Phil students and six M.Phil students are working under his supervision. He has supervised 38 masters thesis student both in demography, and geography and environment. Dr. Rejuan has published 28 research articles in both national and international journals and one book. He was the consultant of UNICEF, CARE-Bangladesh, ICDDR,B, NIPORT, GTZ etc. since 1991. Also he has worked as a Research Officer in ICDDR,B and statistical Officer in CARE-Bangladesh.

Mohammad Arif Sattar (Consultant):  He did his M.Sc in Statistics from Department of Statistics, University of Dhaka. Beside teaching in different areas of statistics as Assistant Professor of World University of Bangladesh, Mr. Sattar served as Data Manager-cum-Statistician in different UNICEF sponsored projects related to fertility, mortality, health and nutrition and population projection. He also worked as co-principal investigator in various projects sponsored by NIPORT. During this period he has acquired excellent skill and knowledge on different computer softwares and packages related to database design, data management, statistical procedures, data analysis and report and his skill in use of microcomputer in respect of statistical modeling is excellent. 

Dr. Md. Shahjahan (Consultant): Dr. Shahjahan has more than eighteen years of experience on Planning and Coordinating Training Courses, Reviewing and Monitoring of Research Projects, Evaluation of Project Proposals, Data Management, Data Analysis and Report Writing. He conducted various surveys and analyzed data for preparing journal papers and technical reports. All of those researches covered the issues of Health, Nutrition and Population; Reproductive Health and Family Planning. He also acquainted with facilitating training courses related to public health and research issues. He is entrusted with many key responsibilities in different organizations. Moreover, he has about three years of teaching experience.
